Sherwood is a cafe and bar located in downtown Victoria. They were looking to update their website to better represent and communicate their full breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks service.
Sherwood’s concept has always revolved around the concept of a space transitioning throughout the day to offer the best service and atmosphere for the given time.
Leaning into this — we fully embraced their existing concept of “Day & Night”.
Upon landing on the homepage you’re greeted with a split image showcasing their day and night offering. This flows onward throughout the website — the menu’s are split up by Day / Night and additional offerings such as their coffee counter, happy hour, late night menu and beverage program are folded into the experience so users are able to find the correct menu for their needs.
Part of Sherwood’s appeal is their beautiful, welcoming environment. It was important to fully showcase the atmosphere and create a website that felt like an extension of the physical space and brand.
Throughout the website, you’ll see a collection of beautiful imagery that showcases the food and space. Alongside that is their brand’s bold and streamlined use of typography in combination with a contrasting colour palette that mimics the contrasting concept of Day / Night. There is an overall refined sensibility to the website with a combination of light animation and ticker banners that brings a playful, casual and welcoming demeanour to the website.
And to top it off — the desktop experience flows seamlessly into mobile so customers can easily sneak a peek at the menus wherever they may be.
It was just as important (if not more) to ensure the mobile experience was as smooth and easy to navigate and understand as the desktop experience. On mobile, the menus are easy to navigate with quick links to specific menus and cross-page links that allow customers to get an understanding of the full offering that Sherwood provides.
